So, what exactly is an ecological pool?

An ecological pool, or natural swimming pond, works like a small lake: the water is purified by aquatic plants, gravel and microorganisms instead of chlorine or chemicals. It’s the same cycle you’d find in any mountain stream or natural pond, simply designed so you can take a dip in it. The result is living, oxygen-rich water that’s perfectly clean for swimming.

No chlorine, yet crystal-clear water

In our regeneration zone, plants and gravel act as a natural biological filter: bacteria convert organic matter into nutrients that the plants then absorb, keeping algae at bay. The result is clear water that feels soft on your skin, without that lingering chemical smell that follows you home from a regular pool. No red eyes, no dry skin, just the feeling of bathing right in the middle of nature.

Around the pool you’ll find loungers, a cosy lounge set with seating, and a real surprise: a huge rock naturally shaped exactly like a sun lounger, where you can lie down directly on the stone, warmed by the sun. Even the diving board has its own story: it’s made from part of an old millstone from an olive press, a quiet witness to the region’s olive-growing tradition, now reborn as a fun spot to jump into the water. Everything is designed for doing absolutely nothing for hours on end. Since Valle del Arroyo is an adults-only retreat, the atmosphere stays calm at all times: no children shouting, no rush, just the sound of water and wind moving through the trees. It’s the kind of silence that’s hard to find anywhere else, and once you’ve experienced it, you won’t want to let it go.

Surrounded by cork oaks and a sky full of stars

The pool sits fully integrated into the cork oak dehesa surrounding the estate, right in the middle of the Sierra de Aracena y Picos de Aroche. By day, dappled shade and birdsong; at sunset, warm colors dancing on the water; and at night, a sky packed with stars that you only get to see far from city lights. Take one last dip in the evening and you’ll instantly understand why so many guests admit they barely leave the estate during their stay.
